The 2017 feels like a hypothetical blend of the prior two versions
(2015 & 2016) of this wine. The rich, delicious fruit and aromatics of the
2016 are present, but the wine is a little backwards as the vintage defining
tannins are keeping things under wraps (the tannins are not as dense as 2015). In
this sense, it reminds me a lot of the 2014’s here in Napa, a vintage that
folks overlooked as it was sandwiched between 2013 & 2015, however we all
know how great that vintage ended up being with just a little patience. And for
those curious, this was picked on September 22nd and personally put
in barrel on Saturday, October 7th, the day before the fires in Napa
started.
